WaterGuard Internal Drainage System Installation to Resolve Basement Water Infiltration
Challenge
Upon inspection, our specialist noticed that the existing exterior French drain system was clogged and no longer doing its job. The homeowner had previously excavated around the foundation in an attempt to fix the drainage issue, but was unwilling to undergo another invasive and costly excavation process. Thus he was searching for a possible alternative solution.
This clogging issue was also resulting in the basement being humid.
A wet basement poses serious threats to a home’s structural integrity and to the health of its occupants. Prolonged moisture can lead to mold growth affecting indoor air quality, degradation of building materials, including rot in wooden structures.
This will also decreased property value, as persistent water problems signal major issues to potential buyers.
Solution
To address the issue without exterior excavation, we recommended the installation of our WaterGuard Internal Drainage System ; a patented and minimally invasive interior solution.
The installation includes a creation of a perimeter trench just above the footing, where WaterGuard drainage channels were placed. These specially engineered pipes are designed to collect seepage from the wall-floor joint and channel it efficiently to the sump pump.
We also installed a drainage matting and a CleanSpace vapor barrier in order to maximize the protection and ensure humidity regulation within the basement.
