Repairing a humid crawl space in Waterville, QC
Challenge
The new owners of an ancestral home in Waterville, QC contacted Systèmes Sous-sol Québec shortly after purchasing the property on July 19, 2025.
Under part of the house, a damp crawl space was causing major water infiltration, especially during spring. When the home was left unoccupied for a few days, a strong musty odor would spread throughout the house.
The extension of the home also had a shallow dirt-floor crawl space connected to the first one, as well as a third section at the back. The persistent humidity was affecting indoor air quality, promoting mold growth, and threatening the wooden structure of this historic home.
Solution
After a thorough inspection, our team designed a customized waterproofing and encapsulation plan.
We installed the WaterGuard interior drainage system to capture and redirect water toward a sump pump for efficient removal. The CleanSpace encapsulation system was applied to the floors and walls to create a durable vapor barrier that keeps moisture out.
To control humidity, we installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier and added SilverGlo insulation panels to improve energy efficiency. Outside, IceGuard and LawnScape systems were added to safely discharge water away from the foundation, even during the winter months.
With these improvements, the homeowners now enjoy a dry, clean, and odor-free crawl space. Their home is protected against moisture and the indoor environment is healthier and more comfortable. This project ensures the long-term integrity and charm of their ancestral property.
