Stabilization and durable waterproofing of a crawl space in Saint-Paul-de-Montminy, QC
Challenge
In this residence in Saint-Paul-de-Montminy, the crawl space had high humidity levels, recurring water infiltration, and stagnant water accumulation after heavy rainfall. This situation compromised the integrity of the structure by gradually weakening the joists and support beams, causing the floors upstairs to sag. In addition to the risk of mold and wood deterioration, the excess moisture was affecting indoor air quality and increasing the risk of damage to the foundation. Specialized crawl space waterproofing and structural stabilization work was essential to permanently correct the problem.
Solution
To ensure effective water and moisture control, we installed the SmartSump™ system for crawl spaces, strategically positioned to optimize drainage and groundwater management. Its airtight cover helps reduce ambient humidity and prevent future infiltration. To restore the structure's load-bearing capacity, we also installed the SmartJack® system, consisting of adjustable galvanized steel posts fixed to reinforced concrete bases, which straighten and stabilize sagging floors. This combined approach ensures long-term protection against moisture, improved energy performance, and permanent stabilization of the building structure.
