Technical assessment of a highly damp crawl space and complete encapsulation in Saint-Liguori, QC
Challenge
In this home located in Saint-Liguori, the residents were facing a persistent problem with their crawl space. The space under the house had high humidity levels, which manifested as musty odors, cold floors, and poor indoor air quality. Over time, this situation also contributed to condensation on certain surfaces, an environment conducive to mold growth, and the gradual deterioration of structural materials.
The inspection revealed several combined causes: exposed soil allowing moisture to rise, the absence of an effective vapor barrier, and inadequate management of water under the foundation. These conditions not only increased the risk of structural damage but also contributed to thermal discomfort inside the home and higher overall energy consumption.
Solution
To permanently resolve the issue, our team at Systèmes Sous-sol Québec implemented a comprehensive approach to remediating and encapsulating the crawl space:
- Installation of a drainage membrane to capture and direct water away from the structure
- Addition of a SuperSump sump pump to ensure reliable and continuous drainage
- Complete encapsulation using the CleanSpace system to create a watertight barrier against moisture
- Insulation of the walls with SilverGlo panels to improve thermal performance
- Installation of a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to stabilize humidity levels and filter the air
The project completely transformed the crawl space into a dry, clean, and controlled environment. The home now benefits from improved thermal stability, a significant reduction in humidity, and a noticeable improvement in indoor air quality. This solution also provides long-term protection for the structure against moisture-related issues.
