Humidity Control and Air Quality Improvement in Issoudun, Quebec
Challenge
In Issoudun, Quebec, a homeowner reported persistent problems with moisture, unpleasant odors, and poor indoor air quality related to the crawl space. The area showed signs of water infiltration and high humidity, affecting the comfort and healthiness of the home.
A technical inspection of the crawl space revealed excessive moisture, poor groundwater management, and the absence of an effective waterproofing and drainage system. These conditions contributed to condensation, persistent odors, and an increased risk of mold.
Solution
A comprehensive repair project involving crawl space restoration, residential moisture control, and foundation drainage was carried out to address the problem at its source and ensure a lasting solution.
Work began with the installation of a drainage membrane at the crawl space floor level. This membrane effectively captures water beneath the house and directs it to designated drainage points, thereby reducing hydrostatic pressure and preventing the accumulation of standing water under the structure.
The crawl space was then fully encapsulated using the CleanSpace system. This 20-mil reinforced polyethylene membrane acts as a continuous barrier against moisture from the ground. It completely isolates the crawl space from the outside environment, helping to block water vapor, limit mold growth, and significantly improve indoor air quality.
Finally, a TripleSafe sump pump system was installed to ensure reliable and continuous management of water infiltration. Thanks to its three-pump configuration, the system offers high pumping capacity, redundancy in case of overload, and additional protection via a battery-powered backup pump during power outages, thereby guaranteeing the hydraulic safety of the crawl space at all times.
