Foundation repair and moisture control in Saint-Agapit, Quebec
Challenge
In Saint-Agapit, the owner began to notice that the foundation walls of his basement were gradually curving inward. Horizontal and vertical cracks were becoming increasingly visible, a clear sign of excessive lateral pressure exerted by water-saturated soil against the concrete walls. This situation compromised the structural stability of the residence and raised concerns about the long-term safety of the foundation. At the same time, the basement had high humidity levels, with heavy air and persistent odors. Excessive moisture increased the risk of material deterioration, mold growth, and loss of property value. The client was therefore looking for a comprehensive foundation repair and basement waterproofing solution that would stabilize the weakened walls while providing long-lasting moisture control.
Solution
After a thorough assessment, we recommended installing the PowerBrace system, a galvanized steel wall reinforcement solution designed specifically for foundation walls that show structural bulging or cracking. This structural stabilization system works by counteracting lateral soil pressure and stopping the progressive movement of walls. The steel beams are securely anchored to provide permanent support, securing the foundation and, in some cases, gradually straightening the walls over time.
To address the basement moisture issue and improve overall waterproofing, we also installed a Sanidry Sedona, a high-performance dehumidifier designed for residential underground environments. This system provides effective humidity control, helps dry the ambient air, and improves indoor air quality. By combining a proven foundation reinforcement system with an advanced moisture management solution, the project resulted in a stabilized foundation, a drier basement, and a healthier indoor environment.
