Damp & Moldy Crawl Space in Sainte-Sabine, QC
Challenge
In Sainte-Sabine, a homeowner was dealing with a damp and moldy crawl space that measured only 3 to 4 feet in height. Mold growth on the wooden beams, caused by constant moisture, raised concerns about indoor air quality and potential structural damage. The space lacked proper drainage and insulation, making it vulnerable to humidity and temperature fluctuations. The homeowner reached out to Systèmes Sous-sol Québec to find a long-term solution.
Solution
Our team began by applying Mold-X2 to treat and eliminate mold on wood surfaces. To manage moisture and protect the home’s foundation, we installed the CleanSpace® encapsulation system, which provides a durable vapor barrier to seal out ground humidity. Beneath the liner, CleanSpace™ Drainage Matting was placed to guide any water toward drainage pathways. A SmartDrain™ was also installed to detect any plumbing leaks and redirect water safely, while alerting the homeowner. To improve energy efficiency and provide thermal protection, SilverGlo™ insulation panels were added to the crawl space walls. The result is a clean, dry, and energy-efficient crawl space that supports healthier air and protects the home from future moisture issues.
